Mark Ballas Performs at The Mint in LA

For an artist, a live show can make or break how their fans feel about them as an artist. Sometimes you go to a show and the artist sounds nothing like their record. Other times you go, it's live, no hiding behind vocal tracks, no big extravagant staging or show to overpower the musical performance and they sound exactly like the songs you downloaded from iTunes. And last night, April 18th, at The Mint was one of those experiences. Every artist that performed last night had true talent - what you hear on their records is what you get at one of these shows!

I decided to check out one of  Mark Ballas's show during his 7 week residency at The Mint in LA. He performs every Monday. Even last night he gave a shout out to his DWTS partner, Chelsea Kane, when she showed up! So I'm sure you are wondering, "What will you find at a Ballas show?" Ummm... let's see....

Performances of all your favorite songs (mine - Burn Me Alive)
Great involvement - everyone singing along (including me!)
Cover Medlies and Mashups of some of your favorite artists of today!
Fancy footwork - it's subtle but if you are really watching the performance you'll catch it (C'mon; you really think he would just leave the dancing for the ballroom?!)
And brand new songs that are not on the HurtLoveBox album!

Here are some videos I was able to get of his performances.

EVERY PIECE

NEW SONG THAT HE FINISHED THAT DAY!

WAY YOU WERK

If you want the best view of the performance you'll need to come to a show! It's been awhile since I have left a show tempted to buy another ticket to go watch another one. To catch him at The Mint here in LA until May 16, 2011 click here

CHECK OUT SOME OF THE OTHER PERFORMERS I WAS ABLE TO SEE AT THE SHOW LAST NIGHT. Mike Wojniak and Chris Mouch have their own sounds but definitely ones to keep your eye on!

MIKE WOJNIAK opened the show:

CHRIS MOUCH, so soulful, and definitely knows how to put on a show:

This is one hell of a way to end a set

REALLY?!?!

This video will speak for itself... Rebecca Black.

And the music industry wonders why it's failing?! Because you waste your money putting someone in the studio crossing your fingers that she, somehow, will hit the demographic you are going for. So disappointing. The sad part is, her label (Ark Music Factory) actually has some pretty talented artist on their roster. Too bad this is their introduction to music scene.

Paul Dateh - Who Needs a Quartet When You Have Him?!

I had been searching the internet for some violin music a few weeks ago and came across Paul Dateh on YouTube. The first video you are going to watch was the first video posted by Paul 3 years ago. Here was my first impression of Mr. Dateh and, needless to say, it was a good one:

After hearing this I went straight to iTunes and downloaded some of his music.

Paul Dateh has been studying and playing the violin since he was 4 years old. According to his website bio he dropped his major in Violin Performance to take up the Jazz Vocal program at University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. It makes sense that people were shocked since Dateh had been performing and getting classical training for the last 14 years. But, his goal was to become a successful musician in all aspects of the industry - vocalist, instrumentalist, and writer/composer. Listen to some of his tracks on his MYSPACE page.

Here's one of my favorite mashups. With the clever video editing he is his own quartet. HA!

Since his first posting in 2007, Paul's video uploads have attracted up to nearly 9 MILLION views to his YouTube channel to date! So Mr. Dateh, keep up the amazing work! Being that I have been playing the violin since I was 9 years old and appreciate the art of the violin; I love what you are doing with your talent and think that everyone should know what you are up to!

Paul Dateh: Violin. Vocals. Writing.

A couple more favorites:

Watch and listen to Paul's mashup of Billionaire by Bruno Mars and Virtual Insanity bye Jamiroquai - you can definitely hear the jazz/r&b influence in his voice.

Click Here for a short one called "Blame Drew's Cancer" written for his friend fighting cancer and who started to blame everything from Twitter running slow to losing his keys on his cancer. They put an uplifting beat to a good cause.

Sara Bareilles - Soundtrack to Your Life

Ok...MAYbeee not the soundtrack to your life. But Sara Bareilles' new single "Uncharted" from her latest album "Kaleidoscope Heart" is the theme song to Audrina Patridge's new, self-titled reality show, "Audrina" which will be debuting on VH1 April 17, 2011. The video for “Uncharted” premiered this week on VH1 and features some very familiar and famous faces lip-syncing to the song. Check it out!

The new show, featuring the former "Hills" star, is letting us into the life of Audrina as we watch her balance her life between fame, family, boys (or men), friends and more. The song fits perfectly with this different side of Audrina Patridge that VH1 and Audrina fans are waiting to see.

Watch the most recent Audrina Promo featuring “Uncharted”
What do you think of the concept for Audrina's new show?! Are you excited for it?! Comment below...

Let's vote to get "Uncharted" to No.1 on the VH1 countdown. Click here to vote for "Uncharted"

Jessie J - Who You Are

Jessie J dropped her debut album "Who You Are" on February 28, 2011 and I definitely recommend picking it up.  If you think that you haven't heard of Jessie J before, think again.  She was the mastermind behind Miley Cyrus's (and most of America's guilty pleasure song) hit "Party In the USA" and you hear her song "Who You Are" featured in 2010's dance movie hit Step Up 3D.

Who You Are has landed No. 2 in the official UK charts and 'Price Tag' is also at No.2 in the official single's chart. Her first single off of her album, 'Do It Like A Dude' is back up to No.10!

Glee's Lea Michele Performs at Super Bowl XLV

It was definitely great to hear Lea Michele sing and not lip synch.  Watch her here, as she belts out America the Beautiful before the Super Bowl XLV kickoff.
Don’t forget to watch a special episode of Glee after the Super Bowl on FOX!

Christina Aguilera Sings (& Flubs) National Anthem at Super Bowl XLV

You can't take away the fact that Christina Aguilera's vocals were amazing!

BUT..... it IS the National Anthem and Super Bowl XLV. Now, I understand that there are millions of people watching and it is a capella. I mean no pressure right?!

Here's what were supposed to hear:

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light.
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the boms bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Here's was we got:

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light.
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last reaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the boms bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Almost X-tina...BUT WE STILL LOVE YOU! Don't worry you weren't the first...
